About

Amerikajin.net was originally created as means of keeping in touch with close family and friends. With further consideration, I decided to share my overseas experiences in hopes of providing practical value to a much larger audience.

As a Chinese American who grew up in Missouri, getting in tune with my cultural identity did not come easy. I did not start to develop a true appreciation for my Asian heritage up until late high school and throughout college. After coming home from a college winter vacation in Thailand, Hong Kong, and Japan, I knew that one day I would be returning for an extended stay.

On July 2008, I ended my 2 year tenure working IT for a large financial firm in order to pursue this dream. It was a bold decision to make especially not being reassured of when a next paycheck would be coming in. But instead of letting fear guide my choice, I was for the very first time starting a new chapter in my life where the next steps were not paved out as they have been in the past. It was an unwelcoming feeling, but life itself is filled with uncertainty, so why not learn to embrace these emotions?

With this site, I will primarily be providing an insight into the life, culture, events, and entertainment of Hong Kong. This is where my family was originally from, so it only seems right to set up shop here. However, I do plan on making frequent trips to other areas of eastern Asia part of my agenda. I can't guarantee I will cover all the parts you hope for, but I intend to visit the more recognized places. I will also be posting about various news that I find interesting in Asia.

Whether you have thought about moving to Asia, want to travel there, or for any other reason that has brought you to this site, my only goal is that you can take something away from my experiences.
