The Great Wall Of China
You read about it in history books, watch about it on TV, but this was the day that one of my childhood dreams came true as I finally got to visit the Great Wall of China in Beijing.
I went to the Badaling section of the Wall which I was told is the easier section to walk as well as most visited.
Still had to prepare some energy so stopped by the people’s food of choice during the Ming Dynasty, KFC.
The journey begins.
It was early, about 8-8:30am, so I was surprised to see so many tour groups already queued up to go in.
Upon entering you could either choose to walk east or west. I chose west.
And so did a lot of others. Turned out this side was the easier walk.
Easier my ass. I was already panting just reaching the first watch tower.
Motivational signs along the way.
On the way up to the third watch tower.
Destination reached.
The road to the fourth and highest watch tower on the west side.
A few of us already gave up after the second watch tower, but I was determined to reach the top.
Crazy steep. Makes you think how incredible it was to have been able to build this then.
At the top overlooks a group of people with a death wish.
Headed back down to complete the Great Wall experience. Got another “things to do before I die” checked off the list!
