Phuket Day 2: Phi Phi Islands
The first thing we did when immediately arriving in Phuket was buy a package to head out to the Phi Phi Islands. Here we are day 2 in Phuket at roughly 8am ready for our tour guides to take us out to sea.
I believe the first place we stopped at was the Viking Cave. Our guide told us so many stories about the islands that I couldn’t keep track.
Making our way inside, there were already a few groups enjoying the scenery and taking a dip in the water.
After the short stop, it was off down south to Maya Bay. If this looks familiar to anyone it’s where the movie ‘The Beach’ was filmed with Leonardo DiCaprio.
The sand and water were absolutely beautiful.
Heading out in the water.
Looking back towards the beach.
This spot as well as the other surrounding islands were heavily hit back in the 2004 tsunami. Some say the only good thing to come out of the tsunami was the natural restoration of Maya Bay due to the artificial landscape created for the movie production which upset the locals.
Next, it was off to Monkey Island where we fed these guys watermelon and cups of Coke.
Then some snorkeling nearby.
Holding a camera under water while treading and trying not to kick the coral beneath is not as easy.
After exhausting every part of my body we went to another island for lunch and relaxing.
Ready to get back on our boat.
Our obstacles moving ahead towards our next and last spot.
More beach. Sitting under an umbrella here and sipping on a Singha beer watching fellow tourists up and about.
I must of had food coma because I was not getting out of this beach chair.
Except before leaving, I got my lazy self up to take a look at the other side. Not much in comparison to what I had been seeing all day but took a quite swim nonetheless before heading back to the hotel. Can’t say I’ll be planning a trip to Phi Phi Islands again anytime soon. Although the experience was surreal, it’s more of a one time adventure for me. I’ll save the next time, if there is one, for me and the future wifey.
