Laughing Gor
Recently had the chance to finally watch ‘Laughing Gor – Turning Point (之變節)’, the spin-off prequel to the TVB drama ‘Emergency Unit (學警狙擊)’. Since I paid no attention to the TV series, I only heard through the voices of my relatives about this Laughing Gor or Laughing 哥 character. Laughing Gor is supposedly a gang member in the drama and the movie prequel describes his rise to position. Laughing isn’t the name I’d expect for a badass gangster, but I guess it beats Giggling Gor. Gor(哥) means “brother” by the way for those who don’t know. Why his character got special treatment after the series probably has to do with how it ended, which I won’t reveal, and the crazy HK fan base who went as far as making Facebook fan pages for Laughing Gor.
Anyway, I’m not caught up in all that groupie mess but wanted to watch the film because I was expecting another ‘Young and Dangerous (古惑仔)’ type film. I mean Michael Tse (Laughing Gor) was an original 古惑仔 member, a true OG, so the movie had to be good. After watching it, I wasn’t sure what to think. It definitely didn’t have the Young and Dangerous feel but it wasn’t horrible either. I give it one thumb up.
