Hui Lau Shan Healthy Desserts
Dessert joint, Hui Lau Shan, is a popular place when you just need to satisfy those late night cravings. Hui Lau Shan is like the Starbucks of China, you can’t avoid them and you can’t help but stop in one from time to time.
This place actually started off as a herbal medicine store selling such food as kwai ling ko (turtle shell extract), which they still offer till this day. However, when I hear the words “Hui Lau Shan” I think none other than mango desserts.
Of course they got other fruits such as this harsmar with coconut juice in papaya concoction. Want the hell is harsmar you might be asking? Dried frog fallopian tubes.
As my cousin digs into his tubes, the black glutinous rice in mango & coconut juice with extra mango arrive.
Harsmar with mango and coconut juice to the right. And to the left…
…this new one they had on the menu. I don’t remember what it was called.
Looks like harsmar, but it’s just crystal jelly with extra mango. So if you’re cringing at the fact that people, including myself, eat such things as frog fallopian tubes you obviously haven’t seen ’2 girls and 1 cup’. Trust me when I say these desserts are great tasting and great for you. Still wouldn’t try it? At least you turn away from this post with a new vocab word: HARSMAR!
