Onda VX797 HD Media Player
Before I left for Japan (those posts coming soon), I went with a friend in search for an iPod for him. Somehow both him and I wound up coming home with the Onda VX797 media player.
Since I got the player my hard drive has been filling up with movies. Video formats supported include AVI, RM/RMVB, and FLV. It can play HD movies at 720P.
I have to say watching movies on the plane made my trip seem much shorter.
Threw in a few mp3′s, but not too many, because with all my movies I didn’t want to take up too much of the player’s 8GB space. An external microSD slot is also available to extend to an overall max of 40GB.
Images look pretty nice on the 7″ screen but it does not have an accelerometer to detect tilt movement. So how much did this set me back? Well the decision was made over a span of 2 days. The first day I saw the player it was priced at $1250 (~$160USD), and I didn’t think twice about buying it. Second day it dropped to $1050 (~$135USD), and I started pondering. My friend was already sold on getting one, so I asked the lady to lower the price if I bought one too. She agreed to $950 (~$120 USD) each and the deal was made. It’s all about nickel and diming here.

Hi, I just bought the same player. But the manual is in chinese and no driver/sw disk was included in the package! Have you got an english manual?
cheers
Gary
My manual happened to be in Chinese as well and there doesn’t seem to be a free English manual I can find anywhere.
Controls should be simple enough, but just remember the player will not charge through the USB port.
Thanks for the reply, if I get an English manual I will let you know!
Btw, I tried to play some .flv and mp4 files I downloaded from youtube and the .flv would not play, and the player did not even recognize (ie. display in the video file folder menu) the mp4 files! Did you have to do some file conversion before they worked on your player?
thanks,
Gary,

.flv files seem to play perfectly fine for me, but my issue is also with .mp4 files. They go unrecognized, but I’m not so concerned since I watch mainly .avi clips. Please let me know if you figure out the .mp4 issue though.
I use keepvid.com to rip .flv files from youtube which seems to work fine. Again, ripping .mp4 using this site did not work on the player.
Thanks for the help! I will let you know how I make out with the mp4 files. Btw, I also bought the Ramos T12 but not had time to open the box yet! Cheers
