Got checked in and through security fairly quickly for a Friday afternoon. Had just enough time to buy a tea before heading to the gate.

We decided to take China Eastern Airlines to Shanghai. Probably wouldn’t have chosen this airline company if I wasn’t planning on returning on the same flight as a buddy who was already there.

The aircraft was small which meant I felt the slightest movement. Turbulence was strong and unavoidable for the first 2 hours of the 2.5 hour flight. You know it’s bad when you can barely take a bite from your food or feel the need to hold on to the seat in front of you during bumps. I sat emergency exit, so I prepped myself for the worst.

My cousin told me my face was pale. Damn right it was pale. I’ve never in my life felt an aircraft this unstable. Although, the Hagen Daz did help calm me a little. You ever been served Hagen Daz on a flight? First time for me.

I was glad to finally be on the ground. A bus greeted us as we stepped off the plane. The only other time I had to take a bus to the terminal was once in Bangkok. Wonder if this is just for certain airlines.

The bus packed with all the passengers.

Shortly after checking in at the Howard Johnson, we headed to an event that I can’t disclose until later next month. Lame I know, but my following Shanghai post will hint who it relates to. *Update 4/28/09* Click here.

The hotel had a difficult time hailing a taxi for us.

I decided to go to the intersection and hail one myself but no luck after 15 minutes of waiting. The hotel eventually got us one, and we headed to the event.

Following the event, a few of us went to club Bling. Bling has two floors, but the second level was closed off for some reason so everyone crowded the first. I didn’t take any photos inside as we all quickly killed two drinks and left to eat.

Shanghai Chinese food is indescribable. You need to try it to know how mouthwatering it is. A bold statement here, but it might even better than Hong Kong Chinese food.

Squid is a favorite of mine, so I probably eat more than half the plate. All that food, which fed five mouths, was only $40 USD. I don’t think we even finished it all. I’ve made a mental note to jot down the name of this place next time.
