Khalil Fong

Khalil Fong (方大同) is a soul R&B artist who has been on my playlist for years. He isn’t as mainstream as Jay Chou, but overall he’s my favorite Chinese male vocal.

I see many, but not all, Chinese singers get their claim to fame due to a pretty face or industry connects but rarely on pure talent. At 25 years old, Khalil’s talent in singing and songwriting has taken him a long way. Check this non-embeddable video of him serenading a group of girls on a talk show for proof.

My favorite song off his newest album which came out earlier this year I think. The song is a sentimental love ballad with meaningful lyrics but not sappy like you might be thinking. I like it for the mix of soul R&B along with the jazz instrumentals. I used to play jazz, so what can I say?
