China Milk Scandal

You’ll discover something alright… kidney stones, urinary tract ulcers, and eye and skin irritation. Just last year after the chemical Melamine was found in U.S. pet foods, it is now back in full force. This time the targets are people and worse yet, infants and young children who rely on milk powder on a daily basis.
The scare which started with infant milk powder has now spread to a few other companies who use milk ingredients from China. Cadbury is one recent company to discover Melamine in their products and have already begun recalling certain chocolates. As a precaution, some Hong Kong markets are pulling Oreo, Snickers, and M&M products off their shelves though Kraft claims no link to the tainted milk. Lipton Milk Tea has also been pulled from stores.
Melamine is used in watered-down milk to alter protein levels to pass quality testing. Four babies have died and more than 53,000 fallen ill to the chemical. Continual raids have been issued with 22 arrests made so far in China’s Heibei province.
I’ve taken precaution myself by cutting down on buying pastries out on the streets. Lord knows I’m a big pineapple bun and egg tart fan. Hopefully this incident will brush away soon enough and those caught will serve justice for what they’ve done. Under Chinese law they’ll probably be executed inhumanely. May justice be served.
