Shinjuku ’08

It’s been about 4 years since I’ve last been to Shinjuku. I was able to recognize a lot of the main landmarks, but other than that I was just another lost tourist. After about the third or fourth day, I found it a bit more easier to find my way around. My best navigation tool was to figure where I was relative to the landmarks and plan my route from there. I’m used to locating by street names, but that didn’t apply too well here.

Takashimaya is one of those landmarks that you can use to your advantage. It is a large department store located right next to the JR Shinjuku station.

A building in Times Square located adjacent to Takashimaya.

Noticed a lot of neat architecture this time around.

One thing you won’t have to worry about in Shinjuku is getting hungry. There are literally places to eat around every corner. I chose this place because of the 4′ foot doors. I thought I might run into a few hobbits inside.

Instead, they served a variety of noodles.

You can also choose the broth to eat it with. I did the most spicy one they had, but it wasn’t as bad as it looks.

Even after lunch, I walk around and am always tempted by the food displays that are put out.

Barack trying to persuade me to eat here because he slashed prices.

Ok, I finally gave in but decided on a rice dish with miso soup instead.

Out for a night stroll and ran into these little guys.

I believe that were used as bait to attract customers. Clever tactic indeed.

Heading back to the hotel.
